French are #1 for …

If you feel low or need to lift up your spirits, my advice: don’t come to France. Better: Stay away from French people.
I don’t say that because of the terrorist attacks although they don’t do any good at all but because in general French people are known to be pretty pessimistic.

Actually there was the WIN/Gallup International’s annual global End of Year 2014 survey about happiness, expectations, beliefs from people from more than 60 countries.

In 2014, France was The Most pessimistic country surveyed.
* 57% of the French respondents said that 2015 would be a year of economic difficulty. [1]
* 38% of the French said they were “happy with their life”. 9% were “unhappy”.
* 29% of respondents in France said they would fight for their country [2]
* 54% said that they think that 2015 would be a troubled year with more international discord. 4% thought that it would be a more peaceful year freer of international dispute.

This survey was done in late 2014 [3] ; that was before the Charlie Hebdo attack (January 2015) and before the recent attacks at the Bataclan concert venue, cafés and Stade de France.
I wonder what the results of the 2015 survey will be like. The answer on December 30th, the day of its release.

French people feel downhearted by nature, they are born cynical but all these past events are the final nail in the coffin.

We need Prozac!!! Oh talking about Prozac, it is well-known for several years now that French consume more anti-depressants than any other country in the whole world. France, a depressed nation. We definitely need a joyful event in France, something like the World Cup 1998 when we defeated in finale Brazil 3-0… but it should last longer much longer..and improve the economy too to be really efficient on our morale.

I write about this topic because I remember back when I was suffering from clinical depression in the U.S., it’s kind of stupid but I was happy not to be in France – recovery would have been more difficult when surrounded by pessimistic, unhappy or even depressed people. To get back to normal you need to focus on anything/everything positive and almost put aside everything that is not Good or Positive. Take for example my father, you cannot watch/listen to the news without hearing him vociferate or curse.

They say when you are suffering from depression not to watch the news, they should add not to listen to your dad either.

Personal note:
[1]: it was a difficult economic year, and it is not over yet, oh no.
[2]: in 2015, the most important recruitment agency in France was the French Army.
[3]: theses figures are not exceptional for France, 2014 was not a peculiarly bad year for France.
