Olympic games

olympic 2016

When I learned that the U.S. women’s basketball team would play against France in the semifinal round of the tournament in Rio for the Olympic Games, I knew that the French team would be no match for the team USA Uconn.

Yes, to me it was France – Uconn as there were six former  players from the University of Connecticut and their coach Geno Auriemma who is still the head coach of the Uconn women’s basketball team. A great team, even when it is struggling it is still much better than the other teams.

The French team was satisfied with its performance because it lost only by 19 points whereas some other teams lost by more than 30 points. Still, they lost.

And since in April I woke up in the middle of the night to watch live the second half-time of the women’s basketball NCAA finale with the real UConn team, I thought that I could watch live this semifinal which began at midnight, French time, which I did. Go Uconn!

bonne journée 1

Good morning,

We are on high terror alert,
amber alert,
storm watching,
flood warning,
fine-particle pollution warning,
grass allergies prevention,
scarlet Vigipirate plan,
cancer screening,
and you should check your cholesterol level.

Have a good day.

What a beautiful month

What a month ! The French government wants to impose a new labor law with no consultation, no vote, exactly like in a dictatorship ..and now, it doesn’t understand why French people are angry.

Since April there have been at least 5 days of demonstration in all the French big cities (Lille, Caen, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Paris..) where thousands of people took to the streets in support of a strike to protest against this reform.

To this, you add : French air-traffic controllers, dockers and truck drivers were on strike ; train  and bus services as well as the Paris metro are also been badly hit : a strike is planned every Wednesday and Thursday ; and now all of France’s eight oil refineries are closed/on strike.

If you need gas for your car, well, too bad for you.

Oh and we’re still under state of emergency since the November terrorist attacks in Paris and it’ll be this way until early September. It means that despite our official terror threat level which is ‘extremely high’, France will host big events (the Cannes Film Festival just ended) like the Euro 2016 and the Tour de France. All these events will be secured by thousands of soldiers, special forces and policemen… but French schools are not allowed to organize their annual fairs  because of the ‘state of emergency’. So unfair for the schools and for the children.

Colombia or Fiji

January 27, 2016 Leave a comment

I want to live in Colombia or Fiji.

According to WIN/Gallup International, the world’s leading association in market research and polling, Colombia is the happiest country in the world (with 85% happiness) followed by Fiji. I want to live there. I need to be around people who feel and look happy because in France, people are mostly busy, tired and to top it all morose as if gloomy was fashionable.
* 43% of the French respondents said that 2016 would be again a year a economic difficulty (57% in 2016).
* 42% (of the French said they were “happy with their life”(38% in 2014). 9% were “unhappy”.

France, along Italy are the least hopeful nations in the world. Greece is the most pessimistic (-65% net optimistic) country. It is really not a surprise with their economic and migrant crisis.

In the world, a little over 1 person out of 2 (54%) believes 2016 will be better than 2015, 16% think it will be worse and 24% believe 2016 will be sunsetbeachthe same as 2015.

Well, well, well, Colombia or Fiji would be fine for me especially as it’s summertime over there now.
