Four years ago exactly, on October 30 2011, there was a snowstorm that left us with no power or heat for 10 very long days.

Positive things of the week

1) I had lunch with Isa and her little family. Last time we saw each other, it was late December!
2)  sold a book on Amazon.com.
3) I just got an ottoman for 5 bucks. :-)
4) For the first time, I colored my hair by myself, like a big girl.
5) No snow on the horizon yet.
6) Still no soda for me! Yay!
7) Something funny happened to me: yesterday I had to go to the post office but I didn’t want to see my regular postman, I don’t know why..I don’t really like him, no, I mean, he impresses me..so, I went to the next closest post office; a tiny one and when I opened the door, whom did I see? Yep! My postman! lol If only I didn’t try to avoid him, I would have actually avoided him but the exact opposite happened. How I reacted? Once I saw him, I laughed! It was too much for me.
8) I bought a ticket to see ” Michael Jackson – The Immortal World Tour” by Cirque Du Soleil. I saw MJJ twice in concert when I was still a kid and, well, the Cirque Du Soleil’s spectacle never disappointed me (I saw Kà, Alegria and Delirium).

Positive things of the week

1) It hasn’t snowed yet. I write it now because maybe tomorrow it won’t be true anymore.
2) Still no soda for me.
3) The girl who crashed at my place for 2 weeks in late December hasn’t tried to contact me now that the Spring semester is just about to begin. I guess she found somebody else who accepted to have her at their place for a while – indeed, I know that she still doesn’t have a place to stay for good.
4) I went to the gym twice.
5) I did my laundry and ironed what needed to be ironed.
6) I learned how to fold a fitted sheet neatly.
7) I got my car completely fixed. It should be okay now for months and months.

Little improvements

I try to get organized and make sure that every week I go at least twice to the gym and do one serious meditation session. I am making a weekly planner so that I can check the boxes “gym” and “meditation”. I like to check boxes, it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

On a different note, I am so happy right now that it doesn’t snow. We had no snow since late October. Not a single flurry. AAAhh.. It feels so good. I know it won’t last long and that we are going to pay it somehow. This past month we had exceptionally mild temperatures for the season. I don’t need much actually to be happy: no snow.

The chain saw massacre

I know that Halloween is supposed to be spooky, but I don’t think partying in a cold house without any light, except blood-and-fat candles, nor any water, nor any music except for a very much out-of-tune piano, would be very much fun.

This is my fourth day without electricity. The power went out on Saturday night, due to a snow storm that destroyed a lot, and I mean, a lot, of trees and power lines with its heavy snow.. A real massacre. Despite the fact that there’s no power in my apartment complex, there’s still water, hot water so there is no problem to use the bathroom or to take a shower – I just have to rush after my shower to get very quickly dressed. To keep the Halloween spirit, I take my showers by candle light. Oh the towns also look like ghost town at night, that is, past 6:30pm. By far, it’s the best Halloween, I’ve ever had. Everything is spooky. Even the lines: lines to get a coffee at Starbucks or at Dunkin Donuts, or just to a get warm meal, at the entrance of any restaurants, or at gas stations,..well, just to get gas. There are lines everywhere. Moreover, the Malls are packed with people who look for some warm places to spend some time; there people gather around power outlets were they recharge whatever they have to recharge: laptops, cell phones, Ipads, Ipods, etc… It is simple, there is not a single power outlet available in the malls right now; no matter where the outlet can be: people sit down on the ground, right next to the outlets and plug their devices and wait.

Anyway, the power is supposed to come back  within a week… or more. Till then the snow will have probably melted.

My “Cinderella” moment

October 29, 2011 Leave a comment

I know, I know I haven’t posted for a while, I know. Mea Culpa. But I have two reasons why I didn’t write earlier: 1) nothing much happened since the last post 2)I’m too lazy to write a post. Bad excuses, I know. Sorrrryyy.

Well, what’s up? It snowed a little on Thursday evening and today we are expecting an “Historical” snow storm – it’s snowing right now actually. Despite that we are used to very cold winters, it’s very rare to see snow in October. Oh yeah and I lost my cell phone so I got a new one with the Internet and a camera integrated in it. It is not the best cell phone you can get but it’s a lot more better than my previous cell phone… as my father said “at least you know that nobody stole your old phone, it was so old and basic. You just lost it in your car.” I checked and checked in my car, I didn’t find it. Talking about my parents, they will be here for the winter holidays.

I am still taking half a pill of Celexa. It seems to work perfectly. I don’t feel any changes actually, so that’s great. It doesn’t prevent me from seeing the world from a more positive perspective than before. An example? Yesterday, I played “Cinderella”. It sounds fun, doesn’t it ? Well, it wasn’t. Indeed, I didn’t dressed up and went to a ball but instead played Cinderella *before* all this happens: when she was on her knees, scrubbing the kitchen floor. Yes, my Cinderella moment was when I was scrubbing the floor.Better see it as a funny moment than a chore, right ? It’s weird, I know but that’s how I function lately.

I bet you don’t see it coming

For a change, it is snowing. And, no, unfortunately it is not an April’s fool but the sad reality. It leaves a nice white coating on the ground. Should I start weeping now or should I wait a little bit? Could someone be kind enough to tell Mother Nature that winter is officially over? Thank you very very much.
