This week

A little summary of this week:

  • On Tuesday, I went to my first yoga class. Since I haven’t done yoga for years, I expected to be all rusty and to be sore all over for the next two days but nothing of the kind happened. They call it a “yoga” class but to me, it’s more a “breathing” class. For two long hours we did one simple yoga pose, then four long breathing movements, one simple yoga pose then four long breathing movements, etc. And technically I can not get sore from breathing. So I’m a bit disappointed by this class ; I don’t know if I’ll go to the other sessions. I can breathe at my place too.
  • I am done with ‘The Sopranos’. I finally watched the entire six seasons of this series in time, before it’s not anymore available on my free and legal TV ‘replay’ section. Now I wait to get to watch “The Walking Dead” from the beginning.
  • Today, I woke up with a Big headache and I have spent the all day with it. The kind of headache that : 1) confines you to bed 2) resists to any medication you would take to make it go away 3) makes you throw up. In a nutshell, today is not a good day. But it could be worse, so I don’t complain.

On your mark, set, go

This is my “to-do-list” for the week.

One line = one week.
Each week I have to go at least twice to the gym, do four sessions of push-ups and a serious meditation session. Okay, it doesn’t look like a weekly planning at all but at least all the things I have to do in a week are listed and as long as I do all of them in a week, it’s fine. I know that if I write “Monday=gym” and if there’s a big snow storm or a nasty freezing rain on a Monday, I’ll be “oh, I can’t go to the gym… too bad ^.^ “..but if I don’t associate a particular day to an activity, I have no excuse if I don’t do it. Oh, we had our first snow of the year this morning, by the way. And doing exercises at my place is not a good idea. I could do yoga movements instead, when the weather is too bad… but no jumping. No jumping or I’ll go through my floor and land in the apartment beneath mine. And my neighbor may not appreciate it.

I know, I know, it’s not much but it’s already something for me. If I can stick to this planning, it’ll already be something. I’m not one of those Americans who go out to run 5 or 10 miles before taking their breakfast or go to the gym every single day since the age of 15. I began to go to the gym here in the U.S. because I felt guilty every time I saw an American jogging or at the gym..I come for France and as a good French girl I do Not do Sport. At all. Simply put, we do not do sport. We like to watch it on TV though…ok…it doesn’t count..I tried…so, yeah, I’m still trying to adjust to the American way of life.

Positive things of the week

1) I drove Isa and all her little family to the airport – they’ll be back in a month.
2) I did some yoga.
3) I went to free movie screening.
4) I went to the Cheesecake Factory – I didn’t get any cheesecake, there was no room left for a cheesecake.
5) I am still in contact with my new friend – it seems that she understands why I don’t always answer her messages. Good. :-)
6) Back in February I stopped drinking soda, and now I say “bye bye” to carbonated water. No more bubbles for me. ^.^
7)  I gave some books to Marine – books I’ll never read again. Books written in old French about King Arthur, the Green Knight, the Holy Graal and some other books about poetry. Farewell books! Don’t worry, I won’t miss you.

La vie en rose

Yes, now I see life in pink thanks to my new pink sunglasses. Now that I don’t have to wear prescription eyeglasses, I can buy any kind of sunglasses. That’s so cool! ^.^ Man, there’s not a single day since my eye surgery that I do think about how happy I am of my new (awesome) vision.

On a different note, I made a friend. Tadaaa ! I met her through the website Meetup and together we already went out for some walks, went to the movie theater, to yoga, restaurants or we just had a drink. We are different but we seem to get along pretty well. I have to learn now to have and keep my cell phone turned On – something that is unnatural to me since nobody ever tried to call until I met her. So, yeah, I made a friend. :-D. Cool !

Amor de mis Amores

There’s nothing very interesting lately.

Today, it snowed (again); I had my first ice cream of the year and I bought 2 tickets for my mother to see Hugh Laurie in concert – yes, in concert; and yes, my mother is a fan of Hugh Laurie. Ah, and yesterday we had a small earthquake too.

On Saturday, I’ll go to Boston. I plan to visit the New England Aquarium, I’ve never visited it. I’ve walked on the Freedom Trail already but beside that, I don’t know much about Boston. I know some people who’ve visited this aquarium but I don’t remember if they said that it was worth visiting or Not worth visiting. I guess, I’ll figure it out by myself.

At my last yoga class, the music CD the instructor put on made me smile more than anything else. It was a compilation of famous songs played on acoustic guitars. So, we listened to “Amor de mis Amores” and “La Isla Bonita” (…) on acoustic guitars. Not the kind of CD I’d choose for yoga class, but that’s just me. The best part in this class is when for 2 minutes we do nothing and close our eyes – a tiny tiny meditation session for me. Ah, I also noticed that it seems that I’m getting used to my mantra (the word I repeat to myself during the meditation). I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s like when I first say my mantra, my mind goes “oh, okay, meditation time” and makes the whole process easier and faster – a little.

Positive things of the week

1) I went to my yoga class. The instructor must have read my previous entry about the combination Hatha Yoga/Country music because this time she played a more appropriate CD during  the class. We had a relaxing music instead. Yet, yoga is not my thing. I prefer meditation by far.
2) Three months after my Lasik eye surgery, I have a 20/15 vision. It means that I can read a letter at 20 feet (6 meters) that a person with normal vision would have to come up to 15 feet (4.50 meters) to read. 20/20 is commonly used for a pilot’s license and 20/40 for a driver’s license. I could be a pilot!!! lol
3) I spent a day at a ski resort for free. It was awesome! Ah. I just realized that one of the guys who was with us and who snowboarded is one of the radio hosts.
4) The snow keeps on melting. Yes, there’s still snow out there.
5) I’m still holding out and haven’t drunk anything else but water, tea, hot chocolate or orange juice since I finished my 28-day soda challenge.
6) I’m not any more on this online dating website. It was just an exercise as I said. I did it; and like yoga, it’s not my thing either.
7) Somebody told me today: “Have a glorious day”. It’s more than I could have hoped for!

..and as said Flynn: “Don’t mess with my Zen thing, man”.

Hatha Yoga with Country music?!

March 11, 2011 Leave a comment

Not exactly what I expected.

I’ve always associated yoga with slow-paced movements, with a focus on breathing and meditation. My first session of Hatha Yoga was the opposite of all this. First, we were listening to a CD of Country music (???!!!), and the movements were rather fast, and we didn’t have much time to breath. And the meditation..there was none. Personally, I call what we did “stretching exercises” and not “yoga”. I was already skeptical about this yoga class but now, it’s clear it’s not for me. I’ll stick to meditation and forget about combining it with yoga. My last meditation session was Awesome. I reached a level I’ve never reached before. I could hear the sounds around me but my mind wasn’t there, it was elsewhere. I never experienced this before.
